About Us
The Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever Club (COGRC) was established in 1981 by a small group of Golden Retriever owners and breeders who shared an enthusiastic admiration for this breed. The club is dedicated to preserving and improving the positive attributes of the Golden Retriever, as well as promoting participation in the many activities made possible through Golden Retriever ownership and association.
Where are we?
Our meeting and training facility is in Edmond, OK, just 2 miles west of I-35 off exit 146, Waterloo Rd.
- 8170 N Noble Drive, Edmond, OK (Directions)
So much to offer
Most members began their interest in the Golden Retriever by owning a family pet and have expanded their enjoyment of the breed by training and competing in obedience trials, conformation shows, field events, agility and pet therapy. COGRC encourages participation in events which perpetuate the natural ability and appearance of the breed and serve to develop each dog to its highest potential.
What we do
The objectives of the Club, as defined by its constitution, are:
- To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Golden Retrievers and to do all possible to bring their natural abilities to perfection.
- To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the Golden Retriever shall be judged.
- To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials, field event, tracking trials and agility events held under the rules of the AKC.
- To conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, field trials and tracking trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club.
Shows, trials, and classes
COGRC is licensed by AKC to hold licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, and hunting retriever tests. Experienced members of the Club provide encouragement, support and advice to novice participants at these events. The club also provided many opportunities for training through obedience, field and conformation classes. These activities are fun and provide valuable experience for the dogs and their handlers. The camaraderie of the COGRC members reflects the friendly and outgoing temperaments of their dogs.
Monthly meetings
Regular monthly meetings of COGRC provide information from an interesting variety of speakers, films, demonstrations and related programs. In addition to conducting business, members are given an opportunity to socialize with other Golden Retriever owners. We invite visitors and prospective members to attend our meetings, which are held the third Wednesday of every month (except July and December) at the COGRC Training Center. The general membership meeting starts at 7:00 pm. In July, we hold our annual picnic with doggie games and awards. Our Christmas party includes a fun game of “dirty Santa” with great food and frivolity.
Come visit!
For those interested in seeing Golden Retrievers and visiting with our members, our obedience classes are a meeting place of many. It is an excellent opportunity to see a few of the top winning obedience dogs in the country. Please leave your own dog at home as dogs must be enrolled in a class and health records checked before being permitted. For details about time and location go our Training Classes page.
COGRC also has many activities through the year. Please contact us for more information.
